Cool Globes

In 2007 as part of the "Cool Globes" project, the Chicago Botanic Garden choose to sponsor Sharon Bladholm's artistic concept . Her globe entitled, "Scientific Research that Furthers Conservation and Sustainability", was inspired by a collaborations with biologists studying freshwater Amazonian habitats. Her project displayed freshwater Amazonian fish and a wealth of plants found worldwide as well as several imagined flora that may be a premonition of a new species. It also portrays a ring of seeds around its equator that symbolizes the Chicago Botanic Garden's partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, in Kew area of London England as part of a Millennium Seed Bank Project. The globes were first displayed along Chicago's lakefront but have subsequently traveled to San Fransisco, San Diego, Houston, Copenhagen and Geneva. They will continue to travel to new locations during 2011. Please check the "Cool Globes" website online for specific information in terms of current venue and dates.
